Hair Anatomy

Hair is an outgrowth of protein,it projects from the epidermis, though it grows from hair follicles deep in the dermis. The main component of hair fiber is keratin.Keratins are proteins. There are five million follicles on the body. One million of those are on the head, and 100.000 are on the scalp.

Each follicle rejuvenate itself 10-20 times through it’s life cycle.During 3-8 years hair passes 3 certain cycle of development:anagen, catogen, telogen. In normal case 10-13% of follicles are in telogen stage,1% in catogen stage,85-90% are in anagen stage. Therefore even healthy person loses 50-100 hairs daily.

a.Anagen stage-lengthy growth period, this period usually last between 2-7 years with average growth rate of 1cm each month.

b.Catogen stage-short transition period, this period of transition lasts for 2-4 weeks.During this phase the hair shaft becomes detached and moves upward within the follicle.

c.Telogen stage-resting period, this period lasts about 3 months allowing the hair to detach itself prior to falling out.
